Skin Tone and Hair Color. What You Should Know.

.

You may remember a time when you took the plunge and dyed your hair a color you were obsessed with, only to see the big reveal and absolutely hate it. Well, you’re not alone! So if you’re thinking about changing up your look and want to avoid an obnoxious mishap all over again, take a look at your skin’s undertone for a foolproof guide to the perfect hair color!

Don’t worry, though. You can still be funky and try a wide range of colors. Thankfully, the skin undertone gives a guideline to the shades rather than the colors, so your options are much more plentiful than you may think.

Best Shades For Warm Skin

If you suspect you might have a warm undertone, you might be able to confirm if you take a look at the inside of your wrist and notice your veins have a greenish tint. You may also tend to tan in the sun instead of getting a sunburn.

Here are the hair colors you might find the most flattering if you have a warm undertone:

Fair

If you’re fair, go for shades that neutralize the redness of your skin. Platinum, silver, champagne, and sandy shades are perfect for you.

Medium

Cool brown tones are very flattering for those with warm, medium skin. Try chestnut, dark auburn, and dark chocolate brown shades to soften your features.

Deep

Deep skin tones may want to stick warm browns and caramel shades like butterscotch and golden brown.

Best Shades For Cool Skin

To confirm if you have cool skin, your veins should have a bluish tint in natural light, and your skin tends to burn in the sun. Additionally you may want to look at your eyes and see if you spot flecks of green or blue.

Fair

Cool, fair skin looks looks fabulous with warm buttery tones such as amber, honey, gold, and even strawberry blonde shades.

Medium

Medium, cool skin will be best accentuated with caramel browns, with a hint of red in them as well. Look into mahogany, cinnamon, honey, and golden brown hair.

Deep

Chocolaty warm tones will warm up deep, cool skin, but cool blacks look exquisite as well. Try deep black or dark mocha if you have this undertone.

Best Shades for Neutral Skin

Neutral skin tones generally don’t have a prominent, discernible undertone to their skin, which means a variety of shades will suit these individuals. Separately neutral hair colors will also suit either warm or cool undertones.

Fair

Try mixing warm and cool shades to achieve the perfect color for a fair, neutral undertone. Red shades will counteract the green tones of the skin. Try strawberry blonde, copper, or rust for a striking color change.

Medium

Black hair may be a bit too harsh for fair, neutral skin but for medium skin, it’s perfect! Espresso, licorice, and true black will give your skin a beautiful, porcelain effect.

Deep

Finally, rich browns with red tinges will look beautiful next to deep neutral skin tones. Auburn red and chestnut brown are two excellent choices.
